It’s been over a month since the mini craze over Asian basketball player, Jeremy Lin. After being featured in Time and Slam magazines and on ESPN, the 6′3 senior point guard from Harvard has receded to the back of most people’s minds, if he hasn’t disappeared completely. However, for others like me, his name will remain prominent in my consciousness, well beyond his playing days.
Though not a Harvard supporter myself, I’ve become a huge Jeremy Lin fan. In case you’ve been living under a rock, Lin, from Palo Alto, California, is the star point guard and leading scorer on the Harvard basketball team. No, that was not a misprint and yes, I said Harvard and star in the same sentence. He’s the player that has led the Crimson to wins over Boston College two years in a row, scoring 25 against the Eagles this season. Lin followed that performance, with an even better one against an even tougher opponent; he put up 30 points against the University of Connecticut. It was just another day at the office for him, so to speak. As of February 3, he was averaging over 17 points per game, and [...]

There are two types of performances hockey fans love to see from their teams. There’s the lopsided ass-whoopings, defined by seemingly effortless goals, late-game scrums and a growing, impenetrable sense of swagger (see: 2008-09 Boston Bruins). Then there’s your standard nail-biters: the tight-scoring, hard-hitting kind of stuff that puts the crowd on its feet for the final minute—a minute that can seem like either an eternity or a second, depending on who you’re rooting for.
Round one of the Beanpot on Monday featured both of those kinds of games. On the one hand, BC fans got a taste of dominance: a 6-0 drubbing of an undisciplined Harvard Crimson team (sorry, Harvard fans–not that any of you showed up anyways). On the other hand, BU and Northeastern fans were treated to a fierce battle that went unresolved until the Terriers eked out a late third-period goal, eventually winning 2-1.
And on we go to another BC-BU final.
Next Monday’s championship game will mark BU’s 25th finals appearance in 27 years. BC heads to the championship game for the 8th time in 11 years. The two have combined to win the last 15 Beanpots—BU, of course, accounting for 12 [...]

It is the time of the season that college basketball fans have been waiting for. As the calendar turns into the new year, college basketball fans are looking forward to one thing: conference play. In the coming months, the Boston College Eagles (1-0 ACC, 9-5 overall) will square off against powerhouses like defending national champion North Carolina and those hated Duke Blue Devils. Even Georgia Tech, who finished with just two conference wins last year, has a heavily improved team due to a stellar freshmen class that includes the heavily recruited and highly touted Derrick Favors.
Out of the twelve teams that are in the ACC, the Eagles are being picked by most to finish near the bottom of the conference. The optimistic fans will say that the football team wasn’t expected to make a bowl game this year either, let alone put up a fight against USC. Other fans realize it’s going to be a long season for these Eagles. Sure, they already have a head start on the conference after squeezing out a one point win against Miami (0-1 ACC, 14-1) early last month. They will also pull out a few upsets here and [...]
