It has been a week of almost’s and close calls in Boston this week.
The Eagles almost upset Duke. The Blue Devils had a ten point lead at one point, but BC managed to cut it down and bring the game very much within their reach. Coming off a loss to Florida State but also a good win against Clemson a week before, the Eagles seemed to have the confidence to force an upset. The game ended 66-63, the Eagles just one missed three pointer away from beating the Blue Devils for only the third time ever. But that didn’t happen, and BC sits at ninth in the ACC.
The Celtics almost looked like their old selves and like they were going to beat the Magic, but then they just looked old. Going into halftime, the Celts were up by 11. Then the third quarter happened and the Magic outscored them 36-11 and closed out the game 96-89. More than just another loss, the Magic moved up into the Celts second place in the Eastern Conference. Just the week before, the Celts let the Magic and the Lakers take a lead out from under them, making [...]

If any BC basketball fans went into the opening week of conference play with an optimistic attitude, chances are their hopes died as quickly as each of the games ended. Early this season, BC managed to squeeze out a 61-60 win against ACC foe Miami. Since then, BC has lost their last three conference games by a combined score of 52 points, and the Eagles never managed to break the 60 point barrier in any of the losses. BC is now the lowest team on the totem pole and is tied for last in the ACC with Miami and North Carolina State.
In case any of the readers out there missed any of the games, here’s a quick recap. Trevor Booker led Clemson with 19 points and BC forward Joe Trapani did his best trying to keep up leading the Eagles with 13 but it was all for naught as the Tigers handed the Eagles their first conference loss of the season. The Duke Blue Devils crushed (sorry, there really is no other word that fits appropriately here) the Eagles by 20 points in a 79-59 loss. On a positive note, BC’s Reggie Jackson scored [...]

What’s the talkie saying about Boston sports today?
Celtics still injured. Dock Rivers said that KG will still be out for the next 10-14 days, but more likely ten, due to not being able to keep Garnett still. KG got kicked twice last month causing his repaired knee to hyperextend. Apparently it was almost impossible to get Garnett to stop physical activity entirely (love the dedication) but the rest has done him good and he should hopefully come back strong.
Replacing KG was Rasheed Wallace, now also hurt. Wallace sat out Monday with a hurt foot and could be out for up to a week. So, now replacing him is Brian Scalabine. The fantastic four are down to a Trying Two. The Celts are 3-4 since KG’s injury but sit at a respectable third place in the league behind LA and Cleveland. Let’s hope they get healthy fast. They play the Nets tonight.
Pat’s Draft Picks. The only good thing about the Patriots losing to the Ravens is that they get a better first-round draft pick. They will now pick 22nd. They also have three second-round picks. Hopefully Belichick takes full advantage of this, because we could sure use [...]

It is the time of the season that college basketball fans have been waiting for. As the calendar turns into the new year, college basketball fans are looking forward to one thing: conference play. In the coming months, the Boston College Eagles (1-0 ACC, 9-5 overall) will square off against powerhouses like defending national champion North Carolina and those hated Duke Blue Devils. Even Georgia Tech, who finished with just two conference wins last year, has a heavily improved team due to a stellar freshmen class that includes the heavily recruited and highly touted Derrick Favors.
Out of the twelve teams that are in the ACC, the Eagles are being picked by most to finish near the bottom of the conference. The optimistic fans will say that the football team wasn’t expected to make a bowl game this year either, let alone put up a fight against USC. Other fans realize it’s going to be a long season for these Eagles. Sure, they already have a head start on the conference after squeezing out a one point win against Miami (0-1 ACC, 14-1) early last month. They will also pull out a few upsets here and [...]
