So, The Bruins and Celtics are in playoffs and the Sox have games just about every day. How do you keep up?! How do you choose what games to watch when they overlap? No worries: I have created a calendar of all the Celtics, Bruins, and Red Sox games this month so that you can keep track.
Since the Red Sox play everyday, my advice is to watch them in between playoff games, but if they overlap with the Celts or Bruins, skip them for the night–we have them until October. Then obviously, if either of the series go past game 4, you’ll want to make sure to tune into those key games. And, if you can always flip channels in between commericials, time-outs, quarters, periods, etc. The biggest overlap days are April 17 and 23, so be ready to make a decision on those ones.
Lets bring on another championship!

The week has ended on a positive note for both the Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins.
Not only did the two struggling teams produce wins, but they won in a big fashion. The Celtics put up 122 points and beat the Pacers by 19 while the Bruins bested the Philadelphia Flyers, on the road, 5-1.
Don’t let the big wins get you too excited however. These teams have been too up-and-down lately. They both need to string a few performances like this consecutively before they can become legitimate championship contenders again.
Currently the Celtics sit comfortably in the third spot in the Eastern Conference playoff standings, and they should comfortably win their division which would guarantee a top four seed and home-court advantage in the first round.
However, the lack of competition within the division has not benefitted the Celtics. Rather it has allowed them to become complacent and lethargic, and they have played down to their competition, such as when they lost to the league-worst New Jersey Nets two weeks ago.
The team cannot continue to play at the same current pace. There is no way they can compete with Cleveland, Orlando, or Atlanta come playoff time. They could [...]

Down 3-1 to the Senators with under two minutes to play, the Bruins’ fifth loss of the season was inevitable. In fact–loyal fan that I am–I turned off the TV and chucked the remote, feeling I had better things to do on a Saturday night than watch the clock run out on yet another setback in a season marred with perplexing inconsistency. I whined to my sister via text that the Bruins, now a sub-.500 team, were nearly halfway to their loss total from all of last season. After all, they hadn’t shown much fight through their first nine games, so what was there to indicate the possibility of a last-minute comeback?
Of course, being a mercurial, pessimistic Boston sports fan, I disregarded the Bruins’ uncanny ability to claw back into games–a quality that carried this team through so many brilliant stretches last season, but seemed to be absent thus far in the 2009-10 campaign. Some of that magic must still be lingering, though, as I received a text barely a minute later: Mark Recchi goal, 3-2 Ottawa with a minute left. Feeling slightly ashamed, I tuned back in to see if there was a faint glimmer [...]

Less than two weeks into the season, the defending Eastern Conference champs face a myriad of unexpected concerns in almost every facet of the game–inconsistent scoring, sloppy puck control, inability to win physical battles, shaky goaltending, and downright abysmal special teams play. Effort and mental toughness have been called into question and, thus far, there seems to be a general absence of the swagger that carried the Bruins to their best record in decades last season.
Fans have hastened to point fingers, from revisiting the Kessel trade to reopening a Pandora’s Box of questions regarding Tim Thomas’ effectiveness as a full-time starting goaltender. Some may be willing to go so far as to proclaim last year a fluke, a mere aligning of the stars for a group of overachievers in the midst of miraculous career seasons.
In my opinion, any notion of a demise at this point in the season is ludicrous. True, the Bruins mustered just two wins out of a season-opening homestand in which they surrendered 19 goals in five games. True, one of those wins came against the lowly Islanders in the shootout after the Bruins erased a three-goal, third-period deficit–one of the few exhibitions [...]

While one game certainly doesn’t determine a season, the Bruins have their work cut out for them after a shockingly one-sided 4-1 loss to the Capitals on opening night at the Garden.
After ten minutes of close, up-tempo hockey, the remainder of the contest was all Alexander Ovechkin & co. The Russian superstar finished the night with a goal and two assists, out-skating and out-muscling the Bruins in their own zone to create ample scoring opportunities. The Capitals cashed in twice on the man-advantage, outshooting the Bruins 34-20 overall.
Patrice Bergeron accounted for the Bruins’ lone tally, scoring on a breakaway midway through the third period. Other than that, Boston’s supposedly well-balanced offensive attack didn’t put much of a scare into Washington netminder Jose Theodore. The Bruins managed just three shots in the third period, and the power play was abysmal, registering just one shot over the course of five attempts.
This offensive ineptitude is certainly unfamiliar to the Bruins, who led the Eastern Conference in scoring last season. Timing is partly to blame; key offensive cogs Marco Sturm and David Krejci are returning from injuries after minimal preseason participation. However, it’s still disconcerting that Boston’s top three lines [...]

Hockey Season starts tonight for the Bruins. Here are some key games to mark on your calendars, because they’re guaranteed to be good ones. Lets see if they can grab the Eastern Conference again, and then some.
1) Thu, Oct 1 vs Washington
Tonight’s season opener in Boston features two hungry, powerful Eastern Conference teams left unsatisfied by shortened playoff runs. Initially viewed as legitimate contenders, neither team made it out of the second round last spring; both lost in crushing Game 7’s at home. The Bruins and Capitals face heightened pressure and expectations heading into the new campaign, and the atmosphere in the Garden tonight will be booming. What better way to kick off the new season than a clash between Ovechkin, the league’s most potent sniper, and Chara, its most prominent shutdown defender?
2.) Sat, Oct 3 vs Carolina
While the Canadiens have cemented their role as the Bruins’ arch-rivals, the Hurricanes held the post of Public Enemy #1 in the wake of Boston’s second-round exit. The series created plenty of dislike between the teams, most notably as a result of Scott Walker’s sucker punch on Aaron Ward. Ironically, Ward [...]

If how last year ended for the Boston Bruins was any indication, there is still some unfinished business for the black and gold. One year removed from Scott Walker’s heartbreaking overtime winner in the Eastern Conference semifinals, the Bruins only have one objective for this season: taking a sip out of Lord Stanley’s Cup. It will be a difficult journey for this young squad, especially now that last year’s top scorer, Phil Kessel, is turning a new leaf in Toronto. However, still expect Boston to be one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.
So far this preseason the Bruins have looked sharp and determined to improve as a team. Boston is currently 3-1-1 this preseason, coming off a loss in a shootout against Columbus, Tuesday. In the first five games, one major standout for the Bruins has been goalie Tuukka Rask. He’s the likely candidate to backup last year’s Vezina Trophy winner Tim Thomas. In two starts, Rask faced 58 shots and allowed only two goals and has only improved from the few starts he had last season. Meanwhile, Tim Thomas hasn’t had a noteworthy preseason. Give the guy a break though; he’s only played [...]
