Cavs get Rondo’d, series tied

Wow! What else can you say about Rajon Rondo’s performance in game 4 of the second round series between the Celtics and Cavaliers. Rondo was magnificent, putting together an unbelievable triple double stat line of 29 points, 18 rebounds and 13 assists. He was the best player on the court and it wasn’t even close. And that of course includes the reigning MVP of the league LeBron James.
What makes the performance even more impressive is that it not only came in the playoffs against a Cavs team that had the best record in the NBA, but it was essentially a must win game for the Celtics. They could not afford to go down 3-1 in the series with game 5 in Cleveland. The Celtics had to have game 4, and Rondo willed them to victory. On a day when Paul Pierce scored only 7 points, Rondo more than carried the load offensively.
The Cavs cannot keep Rondo out of the paint. They have no answer for the speedy point guard, and unless they find a better way to keep from getting into the lane, the Celtics have a great shot to pull of the upset in the series.
All the pressure is now on the Cavs. The Celtics were supposed to be washed up and old. Well, they are a little old, and Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett aren’t necessarily washed up, but they aren’t in their primes either. But if Rondo can be the best player on the floor two more times, the Celtics can win this series.
Game 6, is obviously a must win at home, but with Game 7 going down in Cleveland, the Celts would really be helping themselves out, by taking home Game 5. The last Celts vs Cavs playoff series went to seven games and came down to a James vs Pierce showdown which Pierce won. This year might be very similar, except instead of Pierce, Rondo will have the chance to be the hero.
After the Cavs dominant Game 3 win, Cleveland fans may have thought the series was over. But they forgot that this Celtics team has a championship pedigree and is full of veterans who aren’t going to back down. And if they also forgot the Celtics have a dominant point guard named Rajon Rondo who can take over playoff games, well they were just reminded.
