It is their worst start since 1996, their second worst in 25 seasons. It is the first time the Sox have been swept by the Rays in a four game series. It is the first time the Sox have lost 6 straight at Fenway in 16 years. They let Tampa steal 10 bases in four games, and the Rangers steal nine in five innings (the most since 19-f’ing-13). With the Celtics and Bruins actually doing awesome in playoffs, it’s like the Red Sox took to their old ways.
But, I think it’s time to start looking at the glass half-full, not empty. And hey, we may have sucked tonight against the Rangers, but at least we did pull out a win, after losing six straight at Fenway.
So among a string of disappointments, who’s actually doing well?
Mike Lowell and Jason Varitek: Only four Red Sox are batting about .300. Two of those, are none other than bench newbies, Lowell (.333) and Varitek (.385), both of which have been close to being traded before this season. Granted, they’ve only played in 3 and 4 games, but in that time, Tek managed to hit 3 homers. Only Dustin Pedroia (.346) [...]

Two of the New England Patriots divisional foes, the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets, have made trades for two of the elite wide receivers in the NFL, Brandon Marshall and Santonio Holmes respectively.
While other teams add, the Patriots seem to be getting thinner at that position.
Yes, if you look at just the roster the Patriots have two of the games very best at the position with Randy Moss and Wes Welker. However, with closer examination, those two are big question marks for this year and the future.
Thanks to knee and rotator-cuff injuries Wes Welker will most likely not return until at least November. When he does get back to the field, it’s difficult to imagine what kind of football-shape he’ll be in, especially since a lot of Welker’s game relies on his ability to cut, which could be hindered by the knee injury.
Randy Moss is healthy, and will again be one of the top wideouts in the NFL next season. His production could decline a little bit without the threat of Welker forcing teams to go into single-coverage against Moss. Even worse news is that Moss has publicly stated this will most likely be [...]
So, The Bruins and Celtics are in playoffs and the Sox have games just about every day. How do you keep up?! How do you choose what games to watch when they overlap? No worries: I have created a calendar of all the Celtics, Bruins, and Red Sox games this month so that you can keep track.
Since the Red Sox play everyday, my advice is to watch them in between playoff games, but if they overlap with the Celts or Bruins, skip them for the night–we have them until October. Then obviously, if either of the series go past game 4, you’ll want to make sure to tune into those key games. And, if you can always flip channels in between commericials, time-outs, quarters, periods, etc. The biggest overlap days are April 17 and 23, so be ready to make a decision on those ones.
Lets bring on another championship!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The NBA Playoffs are finally here. After a long regular season of ups and downs for the Celtics, the real journey now begins. It was a season that started with great promise. A 23-5 start had fans thinking it was 2008 again.
But instead they went 27-27 the rest of the season. Ouch. 50 wins for Team Green, a far cry from the 70 Rasheed Wallace thought they had a chance to win back.
No worries though Celtics fans. It’s a new season now. The Celtics will either turn their game on or continue their inconsistent play and get knocked out early. Ok, I guess there is reason to worry. Without further ado, lets break down this first round matchup with the Heat.
The Celtics beat Miami all three times they met this season. One of those was a classic game that the Celts won in OT after forcing the extra session on a Rajon Rondo layup at the buzzer off a lob pass from Paul Pierce. The Celtics won the other two games by 5 and 7 and both were highly competitive into the final minute. So while the [...]

A ten-game losing streak. The league’s second-worst offense. Seemingly millions of man-games lost to injury.
The reigning Vezina winner, once a fan favorite, relegated to bench-warming duties and booed off the ice in his final home start. The captain and defending Norris winner, long hailed as a snarling shutdown force, called out for his lack of leadership and made a scapegoat for the team’s pussification. The reigning coach of the year, once seen as the defensive genius responsible for the franchise’s turnaround–well, most of us wanted his head on a platter by midseason.
Oh yea, and Dennis Wideman. And Michael Ryder.
And Matt f-ing Cooke.
All that, and. . . the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs?
Not bad for a nightmare season–not bad at all. With all the bitching and moaning us mercurial Boston fans have been doing (and are still doing, I suppose), you would’ve thought the Bruins were in dead last–and trust me, it did seem that way for much of the season. But a minor hot streak and a few lucky breaks later, they’re in the clear.
In large part, we can thank a weak Eastern Conference for that.
So, instead of the early tee time that seemed inevitable for so many miserable stretches, the Bruins are headed for [...]

What do you say about a game that doesn’t matter?
It was the last regular season game for the Celts and it was no different from many of the past regular season games. They kept it close through much of the game before giving way to a double digit lead, losing to the Bucks 106-95.
What was different was that they didn’t use their starters. KG, Pierce, Allen, and Perkins were sitting out while Rondo lead the Celtics bench to an eventual loss. Why? Because this game didn’t matter. Win or lose, the Celts would remain the fourth seed heading into playoffs. What matters is every single game after this. It would have been nice to go into playoffs off a win, but worse than going in off a loss, or three for that matter, is to go into playoffs without your starters because they were injured in the last game that meant nothing.
And as we all know, our started are aged, and have repeatedly lost steam every few games this season. So, I will not argue with giving our older players a rest. They can’t afford to burn out now.
Rondo did play and did awesome per usual [...]
