Match-Up:
The Flyers (19-18-2) have beaten the Bruins(20-12-7) both times in meets this season. The last of these was won in a shootout.
Line-up:
B’s starters: Paille-Bergeron-Rechi-Chara-Wideman-Thomas
Philly’s Starters: Gagne-Richards-Giroux-Carle-Pronger-Leighton
Pre-Game:
It is 39 degrees, with only a few flurries flying around. The Dropkick Murpheys perform the Fenway favorite Shippin’ up to Boston, but this time not for Papelbon. Classic captains and hockey legends Bobby Clarke and Bobby Orr enter the ice to wish their teams luck. The National Anthems are played, and James Taylor sings the USA’s. To kick the game off, the aircraft flies over Fenway and fireworks go off.
1st period: Bruins 0, Flyers 0
Scoreless. Bruins outshot Fliers 9-6, and outhit 15-8. Both teams came out with energy, and the game started off at a very fast pace, and the whole period was very physical, just the way fans like it. Carcillo and B’s Thornton have the first fight of the classic. Carcillo wins, with Thornton down. Bartulis and Krejci get minor penalties for a scuffle. Thomas made some great saves, especially at the end of the period.
2nd period: Bruins 0, Flyers 1
Philly really turned it on this period. Bruins with a good chance in front of the net but the Flyers countered with a goal from Syvret in the fifth minute. Thomas was distracted trying to hit Hartnell out of the way because of an interference, and was in no position to stop the puck which slid in behind him. Following the goal the Flyers picked up their momentum, repeatedly getting close to the net. 10:16: Bruins penalty on Chara for tripping leading to first power play of the game. The B’s make it through without another score. 5:54, Philly with a breakaway, saved by Thomas. Flyers outshot B’s 12-6 this period, and lead total shots now 18-15.
3rd period: Bruins 1, Flyers 1
Not even two minutes in, Flyers get their second power play of the game from a penalty on Boychuck for hooking. B’s get a shot that goes through legs of Leighton and hits the post. Would have been a great goal for the B’s. Leighton is feeling very lucky right about now. Bruins make it through another power play safe. 4:45, penalty on Carsillo for hooking, B’s get first power play. They have some good chances, but don’t tie it up. Wouldn’t be Fenway Park without some Sweet Caroline! SO GOOD! SO GOOD! SO GOOD! B’s are knocking on the door, but can’t seem to finish. Four minutes left and B’s get another power play. Timonen for tripping. It’s now or never. 17:42 GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL! RECCHI! 1-1! 45 seconds left and another Bruins PP. Penalty on Hartnell for tripping. Overtime. Bruins outshot Flyers 9-5 this period.
Overtime: Bruins 2, Flyers 1
Bruins start the period on the power play from the 3rd. Big scramble in front of B’s net. Thomas with some huge saves. 1:57 BRUINS SCORE FOR THE WIN. MARCO STURM with a great assist from BERGERON!!!! What a comeback. Boston outshot 26-25.
Now for the 2010 Olympic Roster Announcement: Phil Kessel got some booo’s from Fenway.TIM THOMAS MAKES THE TEAM!

“It’s now or never.” I like the buildup on that one. They picked a good time to finish, huh? Would’ve been catastrophic if they were shut out…
Loved the crowd when Kessel and Komisarek’s names were called. Though the little kids wearing their jerseys were probably slightly confused by the boos…
