Red Sox Lies

I feel like there has been some dishonesty circling Red Sox Nation. As a fan, this worries me, and I feel somewhat betrayed. Here are a few lies, already surfaced.
Jason Bay deal is off: Jason Bay wanted more money. Or, at least that’s what we were told. Bay ultimately signed with the Mets for $6 million more than the Red Sox offered him. But, Bay came out to WEEI this week stating that he had in fact originally accepted the Sox’ offer. However, the Red Sox pulled it off the table due to health concerns, and would only offer Bay a deal that included mandatory knee surgery and two of the years only guaranteed if his health was in good condition. However, two doctors, and then the Mets doctor later confirmed that Bay was in fine health and did not need knee surgery, not a shocker since Bay was never on the DL this season. All Bay really wanted to sign was a contract that didn’t include health restrictions, since he didn’t have any health problems. So, the Red Sox could have kept one of our only decent bats after all.
Dice-K Hurts Shoulder: Dice-K had a tough season. He was placed on the DL on two occassions for a shoulder strain, one of which was after he pushed himself too hard in the WBC. Before the second time, Dice-K had pitched 2-6 with an 8.23 ERA. The Sox eventually sent him down to get in better shape and he came back for four starts where he did much better. But, Matsuzaka came clean recently stating that he was actually injured his groin prior to the WBC, could barely run, and continued to play anyway without disclosing the information to the Sox. He attributed the omission to his Japanese pride stating, “I didn’t want to show my weakness. I didn’t want them to think I was making excuses. I would rather be criticized than ridiculed for making excuses.” Well, Dice-K, I think Sox fans would have rather you not lost all those games.
Ortiz comes down on steroid use: When it was revealed that hated Yankee Alex Rodriguez had taken steroids, there was one person speaking out against the use of drugs more than anyone: Big Papi. Ortiz stated that players should be tested about four times a year and if they test positive, they should be “banned for the whole year.” Defending his size Ortiz said, “I know that if I test positive for using any kind of substance, I know that I’m going to disrespect my family, the game, the fans, and everybody. I don’t want to be facing that situation, so what I will do, I won’t use.” Our beloved teddy-bear slugger seemed pretty convincing, although Red Sox haters claimed it was all a big cover-up. Sure enough, months later, Manny and Papi’s names were revealed to also be on the list of users in 2003, giving Yankees fans the perfect chance to say our 2004 World Series Championship was illegitimate. Then, when Papi wasn’t hitting homers like usual this season, fans said that maybe it’s because he’s “off the juice.” Papi denies the claims saying that if he did take steroids, it was unknown to him. I want to believe him. But really, there’s no way of knowing the truth.
In these instances the Red Sox have let us down. The only other question is, what else aren’t we being told?
