Top Patriots Moments of the Decade

The New England Patriots is the team that got Boston’s sports amazing decade started. They were the NFL dynasty of the past ten years. With three Super Bowl championships and a perfect regular season there isn’t much more that the region could ask of the franchise. Yes, that fourth Super Bowl win against the Giants would’ve been incredible, but it still was an absolutely magical decade for the Patriots. So without further ado, here are the top ten Patriot moments of the decade.
10. 59-0: Games in the snow are always memorable. This season against the Tennessee Titans in week six, the Patriots won by a margin of victory not even seen in their dominant 2007 perfect regular season (they also had not shut anyone out that season). Tom Brady took advantage of an already bad pass defense that was weakened even further due to a few injuries in the Titans’ secondary and threw for six touchdowns—five of which were in the second quarter, setting an NFL record. Six different Patriots scored and the defense didn’t allow leading rusher Chris Johnson into the end zone. It was a dominating all-around performance from the Patriots and a message [...]

Boston Bruins: A Decade in Review

With 2009 drawing to a close, the time has come to reflect on what has been a roller-coaster decade in the Hub of Hockey. In honor of the successful, and even the embattled, Bruins teams of the past ten years, I decided to rank each one from worst to best:
10) 2004-2005 (Lockout)

Hey, a bad season is better than no season, right?
9) 2005-2006 (29-37-16, 74 points, 5th in Northeast, 13th in Eastern Conference)

Ah, the twilight of the Mike O’Connell era. It’s difficult to determine which of the first two post-lockout seasons was worse, but this one seemed all the more putrid because of the expectations heading into it. The Bruins were supposed to build off their successful ‘03-04 campaign: 104 points, a division title, and a Calder-worthy performance from Andrew Raycroft. O’Connell pegged the B’s as surefire contenders, delivering a confident endorsement prior to training camp:
“This team, the way it’s set up with the rule changes, I think that we have to be considered one of the favorites for the Stanley Cup.”
The Bruins proceeded to burst out of the gate like that kid at practice who hops onto the ice with his skate guards still on, [...]

Top Red Sox Moments of the Decade

After decades of sleepy Sox fans, Boston finally woke up. The last decade for the Red Sox was more exciting then the 86 years before combined. They took away to Championships and have proved themselves once again to be at the top of the MLB. Here are their 10 best moments of the decade.
10. Sox sweep Yankees 3 in a row: The beginning of the 2009 season looked very good. The Red Sox swept the Yankees three straight times, beating them 8-0. Boston was squeaky clean. Sox fans were basking in the glory, however in the second half of the season the Yankees came back to sweep us twice, and beat us 9 out of 10 games. Then they went on to win the World Series.
9. Sox trade Manny for Bay: In 2008, a very controversial decision at the time, the Sox traded their trouble-making slugger Manny Ramirez, for outfielder Jason Bay. In Bay’s debut, nervous fans were reassured when Bay scored both runs, the second one to win the game in the 12th inning. In 2009, Bay hit 36 home runs. In Manny’s last season with the Sox, he only hit 20, clearly not wanting [...]

Best Celtics Moments of the Decade

It was an incredible rollercoaster ride.  That would be a good way to describe this decade for the Boston Celtics.  The decade had plenty of ups and downs.  From the title in 2008 to the end of the failed Rick Pitino era in 2001.  This decade had it all for the Celts.  While a list of memorable moments from this past decade for Team Green would have some unpleasant memories for fans, it’s not too hard to come up with the 10 best moments of the decade either.  Most come from the last couple of years, but a few are pre-KG.  So here it is, the Top 10 Celtics Moments from the 2000’s in order of greatness from #10 to the top moment at #1.
10.Trading for Rajon Rondo in 2006 NBA Draft- This trade took some time to love, but now it has to be considered one of the best of the decade in the NBA.  Rondo has turned into one of the best point guards in the league.  He’s already won one title and could be an even bigger reason for another parade in 2010.  Rondo may turn out to be the Celtics [...]

Pats easily clinch AFC East and playoff spot

Not that we were THAT worried.
But we can breathe easier knowing this year is better than last. The Patriots clinched the AFC East after absolutely dominating the Jaguars, and earned themselves a spot in playoffs. And it’s looking like they’ll be at a decent seed too.
After weeks of performances that didn’t reach the expectations of Patriots fans, the Pats finally showed up in shoes from season’s past. Brady, throwing as many interceptions as touchdowns lately, threw for four td’s, and Moss, recently criticized for not giving his all on the field, was on the end of three of those, shutting up the media and Carolina defensemen. The Pat’s easily took their clinching victory, beating Jacksonville 35-7.
Sammy Morris and Chris Baker scored the other two, and the Pats picked off two interceptions in the game, one on the Pats five-yard line. The only really awful moment of play was just minutes into the first quarter when Maroney fumbled (his 4th of the year) on Jacksonville’s one-yard line.
Even more exciting today was that the Giants lost to CAROLINA 41-9. Not only did they lose to one of the leagues worst, but they got absolutely slaughtered, and probably lost [...]

Eagles put up strong fight against USC until the end

It could have ended as one of the bigger stories of the college football season.  On a day where Urban Meyer’s resignation overshadowed the rest of the NCAA, the Boston College Eagles almost did the improbable.  After a year where head coach Jeff Jagodzinski got fired for interviewing for the New York Jets and defensive captain Mark Herzlich was diagnosed with cancer, the Eagles almost outflew some Trojans.  Almost.
It wasn’t until the end of the game that the Trojans began to pull away.  The Eagles trailed by just one at the half and just four into the fourth quarter, and it looked as if Boston College was just one big play away from an improbable upset.  Then USC showed why they are USC.
USC Freshman quarterback Matt Barkley completed 13 of his first 14 passes and finished with 27 completions in 37 passes for 350 yards, and two interceptions.  Eleven of those completions were to wide receiver Damian Williams, who was the game’s offensive MVP.  As for the nations top recruit in 2007, he stood on the sideline and watched his team bring home the hardware.  Joe McKnight was not needed.
“We were just not good enough,’’ [...]
