What a game!  BC wins 27-24 in overtime.  Man, I wish I had kept a running journal while I was at the game to cherish the memories. Oh wait, I did!  Sit back and enjoy the first-ever Massar BC football journal entry.  (You can read it sitting up if you want.)

9:00 am: I wake up feeling pretty good.  It’s early but I have to get up because we don’t have tickets yet for the game.  Get a call from my friend Merc, says he missed his shuttle bus from Bentley to the city.  We’ll now have to take 10 am bus.  Not a big deal, I can get a little extra sleep.

10:30: Head to the T with fellow Yawkey Talkies correspondent Scott Jackson.  We both feel totally refreshed after a very nutritious breakfast: Cap’n Crunch with berries, English muffins and a couple super pretzels.

10:45: Meet “Merc” at the Alrington T stop.  He has some refreshments with him.  We make Scott carry them.

11:20: Get to Chestnut Hill.  Start walking around the tailgating areas looking for tickets.  We crack open the drinks to keep hydrated.

Noon: We see the Eagles making their walk through campus to Alumni Stadium and we watch as the team strolls by.  I see my former Natick High School classmate and basketball teammate Billy Flutie walk by.  He’s a wide receiver and the placeholder for the Eagles.  I happen to be wearing a Doug Flutie jersey (thanks to Yawkey Talkie correspndent Evan Anderholm.)  I yell to Billy and he sees me and we say a quick hello and I wish him luck.  I’d like to think my positive energy will help the entire team.

12:10: After walking through the parking garage and the tailgating lots, Merc and Scott decide to make a lap around a lot while I stand with the beers looking like a bum.  It ends up working well as they get two free tickets.  Now we are one ticket away.

12:45: Some really nice BC fans see us walking by and invite us to eat some of their pizza.  We are pumped!  It seems like a good chance we could score the last ticket from these chummy fans.  While we are snacking I get a call.  This gave Merc the golden oppourtunity to tell the nice folks that we need one ticket for me.  They couldn’t have found an extra ticket faster.  Boooyahhh! (Sorry Stuart Scott) three free tickets and we still had over an hour until kickoff.

1:00: We spend the next hour drinking and getting free samples of sausage before we head into Alumni Stadium.  Not a bad way to spend an hour.

2:00: We are in the stadium and we head to the student section.  While none of us are BC students and none of the tickets we got are student tickets we somehow are able to miraculously go the student section in one of the end zones.  No idea how, not like we look like college students.

2:05: I fall in love with a BC cheerleader.

2:15: Steve Aponavicius kicks a 32-yard field goal.  3-0 BC.

2:20: Consider proposing to the cheerleader after she appears to wink at me.

2:30: David Shinskie hits Jordan McMichael for a 50-yard touchdown.  I begin the “Shinskie for Heisman” campaign.

2:44: Wake Forest gets on the scoreboard with a 76-yard touchdown run by Brandon Pendergrass.  At this point Scott’s neck is starting to look quite red from the sun.

2:57: Wake Forest ties the game at 10-10 on a 23-yard field goal by Jimmy Newman.

3:11: BC takes back the lead as Shinskie throws a 4-yard touchdown pass to Chris Pantale.  BC leads 17-10 at halftime.  It now looks like Scott is wearing a red scarf.  Lucky for him he looks quite dashing in red.

4:04: No points are scored in the 3rd quarter.  17-10 still as the game goes to the 4th.  I spend most of the quarter looking for my future wife cheerleader who is no longer cheering in front of my section.  Love hurts.

4:17: Shinskie throws his third touchdown of he game, a 17-yard touchdown pass to Colin Larmond Jr. The BC band plays Viva La Vida.  Life is good.

4:34: Riley Skinner leads the Demon Deacons on a 67-yard touchdown drive that ends with his 12-yard touchdown pass to Chris Givens.  Fans are starting to get nervous.  Scott’s sunburn is starting to sizzle.

4:52: Skinner leads Wake Forest on a 10-play, 80-yard drive that ties the game at 24 after a 16-yard touchdown pass to Marshall Williams.  Time for overtime at The Heights.  Most of the student section looks nautious.  Must be the defensive collapse in the last five minutes, or Scott’s sunburn.

5:00: Stev Aponavicius kicks a 23-yard field goal on BC’s first possesion in overtime.  Eagles take a 27-24 lead.

5:07: Skinner fumbles the ball on 1st and goal from the 3-yard line.  BC cornerback Isaac Johnson forced the fumble and safety Wes Davis recovers it.  Cue the band!  For Boston for Boston!  Another playing of Viva La Vida ensues and BC fans go home happy.  BC wins 27-24.  The big losers from the game: Wake Forest and Scott’s neck.

You have some sort of obsession with Mr. Jackson and his neck.

So what ever happened to the cheerleader you fell in love with. Is it still on the metaphysical level? Interesting concept of tailgating …. I’m proud of your success in reaching your goals:
free tickets and a full belly. Grandpa would be “schepping nachas”!

The good news is I reread this article and probably liked it better the 2nd tme.
The bad news is, I didn’t realize I already read the article until I saw that I already had commented on it.
